Gearing up for the launch of Indirect Books' first novel

We're pleased to announce the fundraising launch for Indirect Books' debut novel, Michael Nath's Talbot & The Fall: A Comedy (With Support), on Indiegogo.
Readers of L'Esprit will know Michael from his appearances in the journal over the years, most notably as the Issue Two Featured Writer, which featured an extract of Talbot. This remarkable novel is animated by two central questions: Can art help overcome our fear of death? Can we make art without knowing death? In exploring them, the novel unites the threads of Michael’s encyclopedic reading, creative energy, and love of a particular band into a postmodern, post-punk romp through a week in the life of its central players.
Charlie Talbot is a Creative-Writing student. Her father, John (a driver on the London Underground), has been introducing her to the words and music of the legendary, cult rock group, The Fall. While John awaits the results of an ominous biopsy, Charlie spends the week at a writing retreat in Norfolk, working on everything but her final-year project.
Indirect Books’ first full-length project, Talbot & The Fall will be Michael Nath’s fourth novel, a raucous and insightful meditation on life, death, art, and legacy. You can read more about Talbot, on the Projects page of our website.
