Welcome to our Substack!
L'Esprit Literary Review + Indirect Books
Chers Amis,
We’re thrilled to be starting a new platform to connect with and grow our literary community. Here you’ll find the same commitment to fearless writing and literature beyond convention as at L’Esprit and Indirect, plus new ways of thinking, talking, and writing about the literary arts.
We’ll have guest posts, interviews, links to new releases, and more, from both the journal and the press. Also making its debut will be The Cordelivres Criticism Club, a new series within the Free and Direct Podcast that’ll focus on craft-based discussions of stories and books through a lens of applied criticism, found exclusively on our Substack.
We hope this new avenue allows us to expand both L’Esprit and Indirect in our capacities for responding to the literary world around us, supplementing the journal’s releases and celebrating the forthcoming titles from the press. The flexibly and range offered by Substack’s more dynamic medium will facilitate this exciting new era, as we look ahead to the first Indirect novel, Michael Nath’s Talbot & The Fall, and march on towards the tenth issue of L’Esprit.
We couldn’t have gotten anywhere without our readers, supporters, and contributors—beginning with that cautiously hopeful Issue Zero of L’Esprit, dreamed up in a Parisian bar over a pint or two—and we aim to build this new platform into something that will keep on in that same spirit of literary ancestry and community. So, a sincere merci beaucoup to everyone who’s come with us and to those who’re joining in, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
Allons-y !
Consciously,
